Welcome to Grade One!

I hope all of you have had a fabulous summer. Now it's time to get back to a routine. I'm excited to see everyone tomorrow as we start a new school year. I love catching up with former students and meeting the new kids that will be part of an amazing year in Room 2. The first day back is always full of jitters and anticipation of what the day will be like. The staff has been hard at work getting ready for a great start. Let's all get a good sleep tonight. It will be a funfilled day tomorrow. See you soon!

Welcome to Room 2!

It has been a couple months since our last post. The summer has flown by. My days were filled with new adventures as well as some rest and relaxation. . . a perfect mix.

I went to school in August to get things back in shape and I am very excited to be starting a new school year. I can't wait to meet all the Room 2 kids and to see many familiar faces on Wednesday. After all these years, I still get jitters about the first day of school. Have a good sleep! See you in the morning.

Grade 1, Here We Come!

The classroom came to life when my Grade 1 friends entered the room. What a great way to start the day by seeing so many smiling faces and some yawning ones too . . . mine included. We introduced ourselves to our classmates and welcomed Ethan to our Bird's Hills School family. It was fun to get to know some new faces as we mingled around the classroom to meet each other and to find out things we liked. It was a busy, full day. In Kindergarten students got a day off after coming to school, but in Grade 1 we get to see each other each day. I know I will sleep well tonight and I hope you do too. Thanks for making the start of the year such an exciting one! I can't wait to see all of you tomorrow.

Welcome Back!

A new school year starts tomorrow for teachers and on Wednesday for the students. I always have difficulty sleeping these next few nights. . . I'm so excited and nervous too! Tomorrow the staff will be able to get together to share lots of information needed for a positive start to the year. We have some new staff members bringing their talents and expertise to our building and that is fantastic. It will be so good to catch up with everyone. I can't wait to meet my new class and to see my former students. We will have so much fun getting to know each other and getting started on an awesome year of learning.

See you soon!

Getting to Know Each Other

We have been working hard at learning the names of the people in our classroom. Students were able to remember the names of many people during our morning meeting. It is great to see the children making new friends and enjoying spending time with the classmates they know from kindergarten.

Today we worked with pattern blocks. There were so many creative minds sharing their ideas. Students made unique designs, tall structures and even animals. We used the document camera to show our work to the class. Students commented on what they liked about their design and what was difficult. Here are a few examples of what was created.

We had our first library class today. The library has new stools that a few of the students got to try out. Ms. Bannerman read some stories too. We will take out library books at our next library time on Day 3.

Back to School

It is hard to believe that summer holidays have flown by and we are ready for the start of a new school year. This is an exciting time for me as I am teaching Grade 1 this year. I moved to a new location in the school and have been busy getting organized for the new crew.

As a child, I always loved the beginning of school. . . new supplies, new classroom, new teacher, seeing old friends and making new ones. As a teacher, I still love the beginning of school. It's a new start to a year of amazing adventures with incredible people. No two days are the same and that's what is so awesome.

This is also the start of a new Grade 1 blog. I hope you will visit us to find out what we are up to. I am looking forward to introducing my class to the blog and having them share their voice with you. I can't wait to welcome all my new students to our classroom on Wednesday, September 3. Let's get this year started!!!
