The Dog House Canteen is open for another school year! The canteen will be open every second month starting in October on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:15 - 12:35. All treats are $1. For the month of October, proceeds will go to Ronald Mcdonald House.

This venture originated last year from interested grade 4 students and their passion continues on in grade 5. Ms Wasney purchased aprons for the canteen staff which adds such a professional look. Congratulations grade 5s for thinking of ways to help others!

We are working very hard to show respect and kindness to others each day. Our class talked about how simple gestures can start someone's day on the right track. When I was on bus duty this morning it was great to be able to greet students with a, "Good morning!" and to have them smile and say, "Good morning!" back to me. I enjoyed the Smiling poem. -Brianna
I loved that I saw all of my friends smiling at me. -Ashley

It was fun when I was saying the Smiling poem. -Isla
I was not at the assembly, but I saw a video of the class doing the poem. -Ashton

Thinking of Others

BHS is beginning a few campaigns to help others and we are looking for your help!

The Grade 4 Green Team is collecting plastic bags for Take Pride Winnipeg's Bag Up Manitoba. This is a program across Manitoba for elementary schools as we help keep plastic bags out of the landfills.

S.P.I.N. Club, which consists of interested Grade 5 students, were introduced to a campaign started by Kid President. It is called Socktober. The club members thought this was a neat idea and are asking for new socks to be brought to school. These socks will be given to a shelter to help people in need.

At a time when we give thanks for all that we have, it is important to remember to care for our environment and to think of those less fortunate. Thank you for bringing in plastic bags and new socks to support these great causes!

Smile!

During our assembly today Mrs. Palamar reminded us about the video she shared on the first day of school. It spoke about how it only takes one person to make a difference and how we can be kind to each other in many ways. Students in Room 2 are working hard at showing kindness to others.

We shared lots of smiles today with a special cookie treat. The proceeds from the sale of the Smile Cookies go to the Children's Hospital. We are lucky to be healthy and active and we hope all children have the opportunity to play and have fun like we get to do every day. Thanks to Ms Wasney for getting the cookies for us.
What can you do to show kindness each day? Even a smile can make a difference.
