Book Shopping

We went shopping at school . . . for books! Students were able to exchange their reading material for new good fit books to fill their book bins. They were pretty excited to find some different titles to read and to get started right away. They also picked something from our class library that was of interest to them. Room 2 students love to read.

Primary Colour Super Heroes

We discussed the powerful primary colours: Red, Blue and Yellow. They are so powerful because primary colours can be used to make all other colours. Students created "Primary Colour Super Heroes" using only red, yellow and blue construction paper. They discussed how their hero could help others. Thanks to Ms Ducharme for sharing the website by Mrs. Brown's art class. The finished super heroes can be seen on Artsonia. They look super powerful.

We had our Terry Fox Run this afternoon. We all met in the gym for an assembly and to watch a video about Terry Fox.

Warm up stretches
It was a warm, sunny day to be outside. The students sure worked up a sweat. They had to hang on tight to their maps as the wind was blowing. Great job to everyone for their hard work. It was nice to see the parents who were able to come out and cheer us on. Thank you also for donating to cancer research. Terry Fox was an incredible person with a big heart. I'm so glad we are doing our part to keep his memory alive and to keep his dream alive.

Read to Someone

We launched Read to Someone this morning. The students have been practicing their good fit books and were excited to share their reading with a classmate. Wow, what a fantastic start. It was such a treat to see everyone focused on reading and listening. Keep it up grade 1s, you rock!

I hope you have a chance to share great books at home too! Happy reading.

IBL Time

We started talking about the seasons during our IBL (Inquiry Based Learning) class today with Mrs. Friesen. The students sang a tree song with actions. There was lots of discussion about how the seasons affect people, animals and plants. We watched a video that had a very catchy tune. The students drew a picture of what fall and winter looked like to them and placed them on a chart. We can't wait to continue our learning on Thursday.

First Full Day of Fall

What a beautiful day we had today. It felt like July weather rather than the start of fall. Happy fall everyone!

It was a gorgeous morning when I arrived at school. . . not a cloud in the sky!

Be Kind!

At our assembly this week Mrs. Palamar challenged all of us to do something kind. The students in Room 2 are showing kindness often throughout the day. We worked on extending patterns in the computer lab today. What kinds of patterns can you find at home or outside?

During activity time there was lots of thinking going on. . .  and lots of activity.

Have a great weekend everyone. Remember to show kindness each day!

Smile!

During our assembly today Mrs. Palamar reminded us about the video she shared on the first day of school. It spoke about how it only takes one person to make a difference and how we can be kind to each other in many ways. Students in Room 2 are working hard at showing kindness to others.

We shared lots of smiles today with a special cookie treat. The proceeds from the sale of the Smile Cookies go to the Children's Hospital. We are lucky to be healthy and active and we hope all children have the opportunity to play and have fun like we get to do every day. Thanks to Ms Wasney for getting the cookies for us.
What can you do to show kindness each day? Even a smile can make a difference.

Dot Day

Dots on our clothes!
It was a fun Dot Day today. We read the book, "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. Then we designed our own dots and signed them. We brought our dots to life using the Colar Mix app. It was pretty neat to see our dots floating on the screen, spinning around, and changing sizes too.

Here's an example of some dots on our clothing

We also went on a dot hunt in our school and took photos of all the places we saw dots. The students in Room 2 have keen eyes. Happy Dot Day!
