Spring Art

Water is spread on the paper.
I discovered an art project on Pinterest thanks to Jen King whose blog is, "A Day in the Life of this Art Teacher". We used watercolour paints which are always a hit in Room 2. Students were asked to select either warm or cool colours for their background. An eyedropper with rubbing alcohol was squeezed on to the paint to add a neat effect. Birds will be added to the background to complete the project.
Did you pick cool colours?
Or did you pick warm colours?
Here are our thoughts:
I squeezed the eyedropper and the drops made the paint lighter and it made bubble shapes. -Kyla
I like to paint. The colours look good. -Brayden
Mine looked really, really cool. When I put on the rubbing alcohol it looked like it was exploding. -Hunter
I liked painting the background. -Kayden

I picked cool colours for my background. -Saydee
I liked everything about the painting and using the eyedropper. -Kody
I liked making the different colours on the paper. -Ezra
I picked the warm colours red, orange and yellow. I like how my background looks after it dried. -Shelby

These artists did a great job on their backgrounds. Now we have to work on the birds. We will post our work on Artsonia when we are done.

Hello March!

March greeted us with some fierce wind and cool temperatures which meant. . . indoor recesses. The students enjoyed the option of getting in some movement with Go Noodle and also being able to have some choice time. We did an owl craft and we thank Ms Turner and her student teacher Miss Bauschke for the supplies. During the craft we discussed objects and materials which we have been working on in science. Pattern blocks are hugely popular with many of the students in room 2. The creativity shown is fabulous. We were able to see our Grade 4 buddies to do some reading this week. I think our big buddies enjoyed  hearing some of the poems and songs we have been practicing. Mrs. Slukynsky came to talk to the Grade 1s about nutrition. We were able to sort pictures into the four food groups. The first week of March has been filled with lots of learning and fun. Next week we have student led conferences. We are looking forward to sharing with our families.

We made cards for Ashley and I was so impressed at how thoughtful the students were in carefully writing a message from their hearts. The voices of Grade 1s are innocent and honest. . . their words touched my heart. We were able to get in some laughter too which is always important.
