Friendship Soup

Our theme with Miss Katie this week was friendship. We talked about how to be a good friend and the qualities to look for in a friend. We made friendship soup. The ingredients included kindness, fairness, goofiness, fun, honesty, safety and respect.

Here are our thoughts:
A friend should be kind because it will make the other friend smile. -Josh
I'm going to put in fun because then you will have lots of fun with your new friend. -Anna
A friend should be fair so they are not a cheater. -Russell A.
Honesty is important because you tell the truth. -Cady
My friend should be kind. -Ethan
I like to play with my friends. -Cody
I think a friend should have honesty because telling the truth is a good thing to do. -Sierra
A friend should be nice because if you are not nice you won't be a friend. -Callum
A friend should be respectful because it's nice to help someone have a good time. -Levi
Sometimes a friend can help other friends and the other friend can be happy and they like to play together. -Zachary
Friends should play nicely with each other because someone might get left out. -Brady
I want my friends to be happy because then I could be happy too. -Eliza
My friends need to be safe so I can play with them too. -Bapreet
I want my friends to be kind because if my friends aren't kind I won't play with them. -Jake
Friends should always be kind to their other friends because if other people see them being nice they could ask to be their friend. -Naomi
A friend is respectful to other friends. -Gavin
A friend makes up fun games. -Landyn
Friends should keep their hands to self. -Jay Dee
A friend is kind. -Russell L.

Marble Run Wrap Up

Last week we had a gallery walk as we shared our marble runs with our big buddies. They were able to go to the table groups to see how our designs worked. Today we went to see the design projects our Big Buddies made. Some projects were games that used magnets and other projects made sounds. It was very neat to see all the creative minds that were able to share their inventions!

Mrs. Dent Scarcello made an ebook of our IBL project.....have a look! Thanks Mrs. Dent Scarcello. We enjoyed spending time with you and learning about objects and materials.

Building Community

Miss Katie and Mr. Henri have been talking to the grade 1s about building community in the classroom. We have talked about how to listen with our whole body, our eyes, ears, mouth, hands, brain and heart. We shared many examples of how students in Room 2 can be very different, but also the same in many ways. We made a graph about flavours of ice cream we like and the colour of our hair. There were many differences and similarities in our classroom.
Here are our thoughts:
They used puppets to show how to be responsible, respectful and safe. -Gavin
I learned that we can make a community with just a little bit of people. -Levi
I learned that on the outside things can be different, but in side things can be the same. -Cady
I use my ears to listen. -Josh
Mr. Henri makes funny faces. -Ethan
I learned how to be responsible and listen with your whole body. -Landyn
I like chocolate ice cream. -Jay Dee
I learned that everyone does not like the same ice cream sometimes. -Zachary
My favourite ice cream was orange. -Cody
I learned that we are the same on the inside, but different on the outside. -Sierra
I learned that nobody's hair colour has to be the same. My hair colour is dirty blonde. -Naomi
I liked the puppets. Rexy is the dinosaur puppet. -Russell L.
We made a graph to show which people liked different ice cream. I like chocolate. -Eliza
It was fun learning about being the same and different. -Bapreet
On the outside you look different, but on the inside we are the same. -Brady
We read a book about how we don't have to be the same. We talked about how people are different. -Anna
Most people loved other ice creams that weren't on the sheet. Rainbow is my favourite kind of ice cream. -Callum

We are happy to have Miss Katie and Mr. Henri come to spend time with us. The students are learning new information to help us be a kind and supportive classroom community.
